My inspiration for this shoot was a made-up story in my head of a forbidden love between a Union soldier and an Irish immigrant’s daughter.
Having been ordered by his father, who was strongly prejudiced against anyone with Irish blood, to stay away from the beautiful, red-haired lass, he made a decision to do the only thing he knew would allow them to be together: defect to the South. His family received word that he was missing, assumed dead. Her’s were taken by consumption. They only had to wait out the war and they could begin a new life together.
He in a Confederate uniform, and she, nursing the wounded, stayed as close as they could and wrote to each other often. Her heart dropped when she didn’t hear from him. A week went by, then two. She knew he must be one of the unknown dead, being that he was fighting under an assumed name with no records. Serving the sick and injured with a broken heart, no family and no love, she eventually fell ill and the fever claimed another victim. Her last hope as the breath left her body was to find him, so she searches.
I have been wanting to do a fun shoot for a long time, especially since having Gideon last October and putting the camera down for a while. I had so much fun planning and shooting this one!
